Curtain Call: The Result

There wasn’t really any other subject for a capstone that interested me as much as this one. As something I had always wanted to do, it was only necessary that I took this topic and went with it. Unfortunately, my book this summer was not what I was aiming for in my research, and this is where I got the idea of using freeform quotations from all people. When I first started this project, I was completely open-ended. I did not have a specific goal or end game that I wanted to reach. Not only did this make me think from all perspectives of how philosophy is developed and modeled, but it made me question every step forward that I took. Who is a philosopher? What really is philosophy? Why a circle? But really, why a goddamn circle? It almost felt as if I was coming up with ideas out of thin air and putting them on paper, justified merely by quotes from random people. At some point, I didn’t want to continue what I was doing since it felt so impractical and without evidence.

Somewhere around the end of Act III I had a major epiphany, something that I had known, but not known that I knew. I came to the realization that all philosophies are made up. Every single one. Each philosophy was somehow, somewhere and in some way materialized by human being trying to find rationality in an irrational world. This doesn’t necessarily make their philosophy wrong, however, but it doesn’t necessarily make theirs right above all others. Through collaboration or lessons from outside sources (like my quotes from all different people in this essay), humankind can make something that will benefit us. Thus, I conclude:
Philosophy is a model in which humans create in an attempt to justify that which can’t be understood or answered. It can never be correct or incorrect, it is a neutral idea that aspires to be a tool to understand or cope with the unknown. All philosophies are just

different perspectival answers of the universal human questioning of what we don’t know. Then again, this definition can be seen as a philosophy itself...
The circle can be viewed as utter hogwash, or the greatest way to lead a life. It all depends on what a person is raised to believe and what works best for them. At first, I thought this philosophy would be my end-all-be-all. It would be something that I could follow my whole life after this project and pass down. At the curtain call, I think I have moved away form the circle now. It was a good try, but I think I can come up with a philosophy better for myself with more experience and especially more mistakes. Maybe something with squares?... ;)

As for the reader and the sake of this whole project, I hope that my circle has touched yours. That you learned the importance of taking care of yourself and taking care of others. Human totality has enough truth to express significant aspects of our world. No matter what, keeping on top of your life, whether you use a circle to measure your prowess or not, will provide great benefits. By all means, use the circle if it helps you. If you believe it can change your perspective on life, then it can for you! Whatever philosophy you choose to follow, believe in it, but be willing to change if life demands it. Find comfort in it, as it can be a dim light to follow in a cavern of darkness.

Most importantly, follow whatever makes you happy and aspires you to make others just as cordial, In a world where life can be easy for some and brutal for others, happiness has yet to be triumphed as the universal philosophy of mankind.
